Stopwatch & Timer
Run a hundredth-of-a-second stopwatch with laps or set a minutes-and-seconds countdown that highlights the screen when it reaches zero, all in your browser.
Stopwatch & Timer — A combined stopwatch and countdown timer that runs entirely in your browser. Switch between a 1/100-second stopwatch with start, stop, lap, and reset, and a minutes-and-seconds countdown that flashes the display when time is up. Timing is measured locally with the high-resolution clock, so nothing is sent to any server.
What is Stopwatch & Timer?
Stopwatch & Timer is a free in-browser tool that does two jobs from one window. In Stopwatch mode it counts up with hundredth-of-a-second precision and lets you record laps, each shown with its split time. In Countdown mode you set minutes and seconds, press Start, and watch the remaining time tick down until it hits zero, at which point the display is highlighted to grab your attention. It is handy for athletes timing intervals, cooks watching a dish, presenters keeping to a slot, students using study cycles, and anyone who just needs a quick, reliable timer without installing an app. The current reading is also exposed as a copyable value so you can grab the elapsed or remaining time at any moment.
How to use Stopwatch & Timer
- Pick Stopwatch or Countdown with the Mode switch at the top.
- For Countdown, enter the Minutes and Seconds you want before starting.
- Press Start to begin; the big display shows time in MM:SS.cc.
- Press Stop (Pause) to hold the time, then Start again to resume from where you left off.
- In Stopwatch mode, press Lap to record the current time with its split, listed below.
- Press Reset to clear the time and laps back to zero.
Examples
Timing 400m sprint intervals
Stay in Stopwatch mode, press Start as the runner leaves, and tap Lap at the end of each interval. Each lap row shows the total elapsed time and the split since the previous lap, so you can compare each repeat at a glance.
A 25-minute focus countdown
Switch to Countdown, set Minutes to 25 and Seconds to 0, then press Start. The remaining time counts down in the large display, and when it reaches 00:00.00 the screen turns red with a Time's up note so you know to take a break.
Quick 90-second egg timer
In Countdown mode set Minutes to 1 and Seconds to 30 and press Start. Stop and Start let you pause if you get interrupted, and the highlighted finish makes it obvious when your 90 seconds are over.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between the two modes?
- Stopwatch counts up from zero with 1/100-second precision and supports lap recording, while Countdown starts from a minutes-and-seconds value you set and counts down to zero, highlighting the display when it finishes.
- How precise is the timing?
- The stopwatch shows time down to a hundredth of a second (MM:SS.cc). Timing uses your device's high-resolution clock, so it stays accurate even while you switch modes or pause and resume.
- What does the Lap button do?
- In Stopwatch mode, Lap saves a snapshot of the current time and adds a row below showing both the total elapsed time and the split since the previous lap, which is useful for comparing repeated intervals.
- Can I pause and continue?
- Yes. Press Stop to hold the current time, and Start again to resume from exactly where you paused. Reset clears everything back to zero, including any recorded laps.
- Does this send my timing data anywhere?
- No. The stopwatch and timer run entirely in your browser using your device's clock. Nothing is uploaded to or stored on any server, so it works offline and your timing stays private.
